No 2002 anything is reliable. Even perfectly maintained, a 15 year old car has worn out stuff that will break. It depends. The S Type equipped with the 3.0L Ford Duratec is MUCH less likely to give you problems. Jaguar added some variable valve timing to it for more power, but it's still a bulletproof engine.
