The ones I use the most is Master Controller. You can use it to rename Sims, adjust their age, skills, family relationships, relationships with others, family funds, add Sims in houses they couldn't afford and much, much more. Story Progression is a great mod too, especially if you get all the modules associated with it.

PortraitPanel Download for patch 1.67/69. This mod changes the Portrait Panel to display a maximum of 24 sim portraits, useful for playing overstuffed families. Clicking a portrait with the middle mouse button will now bring up the sim menu. Similarly, double clicking on a portrait will do the same (for those of you sans middle mouse buttons).

Hiding does not mean (like only blacklisting) that the game cannot use it like when a sim ages up. It still can use it, only editing the CASP in every CC package makes it the way you want. CCCASP is the one for the EA stuff installed via Sims 3 extensions and basic game.
